I have never actually watched this awards show before, but my daughter wanted to watch the pre-show because she is going through a fashion phase. I have seen a lot of the shows in question, however, so I was going to see who won what. We went to Hugo opening weekend, and loved it, but I am elated so many BBC shows are winning awards. Yes, Downton Abbey is wonderful, but if you have not watched Idris Elba in BBC’s Luther, you are missing something wonderful. I do not know why the BBC is producing so much wonderful, and intellectually stimulating, entertainment, but I sincerely hope they keep it up. And Allah bless PBS for providing the US something that rarely comes our way.
Edit: I should add that “Luther” is a very violent and brutal show as well, it is just a very good show. I do not mind violence, provided it has a point. I loved HBO’s Rome, which was both graphically violent and wildly oversexed, but I am an ancient history major and it was historically relavant sex and violence. Think of “Luther” like “The Wire” and it will make sense. Violent to the extreme, but very good television.
Edit 2: Peter Dinklage is a wonderful actor, BTW, and I am thrilled he won. I HATE GRRM, since book 5, but I have always pictured Tyrion as Dinklage.
